Manhattan Information Systems — 33 Years Young and Going Strong

I am pleased to share with my fellow TechSelect members that our company, Manhattan Information Systems (MIS), just celebrated our 33rd consecutive year in business. My father and uncle founded the company in 1975 at the genesis of the data processing era. They sold office supplies, calculators and dictation equipment. Although conservative by nature, we were always on the lookout for the newest technologies being offered in the marketplace.
MIS received HP's financial and scientific calculators authorization in 1978, which officially makes us the oldest HP reseller in the country. In 1984, another first was bestowed upon us — an IBM medallion. Up until this point, IBM only issued medallions to retail storefront operations. MIS was the first corporation to receive an IBM medallion, thus allowing us to sell PCs directly to end users. Our success really flourished in 1987 when we became Compaq authorized. It is this HP/Compaq business that is the foundation of our successful hardware sales today.
In the early 90s, MIS introduced services to our line card. We began by offering help desk and break fix contracts to our customers. This has evolved into the successful, multi-layered managed services platform we provide today. In addition, our qualified engineering team offers comprehensive network design, integration and implementation services. MIS retains many elite authorizations with a number of premier manufacturers in the industry.
I joined MIS more than 25 years ago and, in my role as vice president, I'm involved in the many facets of day-to-day management of vendor relationships, including Tech Data and TechSelect. MIS has been a loyal Tech Data customer for more than 20 years. We share Tech Data's conservative values and are very comfortable with Tech Data's executive management team and the fact that they listen.
I enjoy the camaraderie and understand the value of being a part of the TechSelect Community, and appreciate the ability to network with peers, manufacturers and Tech Data's executives at the Partner Conferences. And, above all, I'm most pleased with the friendships I've made as a result of my membership in the TechSelect Community.
